ABOUT ME
I am Ms. Pham, a New Orleans native and proud Louisiana State University alumna with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Geaux Tigers! My lifelong passion for teaching is rooted in the conviction that artistic expression and academic instruction are vital for nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. I advocate for a mindful educational approach, fostering a supportive classroom atmosphere where students feel empowered to explore their emotions and achieve personal development within a secure environment. As a fresh educator, I am eager to evolve alongside your children, advancing my professional skills through meaningful partnerships with students, colleagues, and families. I am honored to help guide your little ones and I look forward to embarking on this collaborative path of discovery and enrichment together.
PHILOSOPHY
“It is hard to paint like an artist, but even harder to paint like a child.”
My teaching philosophy places an emphasis on three things, the process, the history, and the students. I believe that creating art is applicable in all things in life. The mere process, trial and error, and patience art making requires, strengthens life long skills that are applicable anywhere students go, not only in the studio.
As an artist, the process of creating art requires mental fortitude. It builds patience, ambition, and most of all the ability to allow yourself to make mistakes. As a teacher, artist, and a person, allowing myself patience and grace for imperfection is something I continue to struggle with and something I aim to help students work within themselves through art making.
Through learning the processes, we learn where they came from, how to do them, and of course, the creators. Art history and contemporary art has always been euro-focused. When we think of art history, we think of the renaissance, we think of Picasso, but Europe was not the only place creating art. Everywhere in the world has been creating art for longer than written history goes and I believe placing emphasis on artists of color and the importance of culture is extremely important in this new age of artists.
Each student, regardless of who they are, can become artists. It is about the students. I want to act as a guide for students, to express themselves authentically and take what they can from art. I take an individualistic approach in my classroom. Each student is at a different skill level and has vastly different ideas. So, I find it extremely important to take time to understand them and their direction. A general class expectation is expected, but differentiated instruction and personalized assessments is my standard to allow each student to flourish in their own creative visions.
I believe that children are the best artists, by the mere creativity and freedom each child holds. Through my philosophy, self empowerment and kindness is the goal for each student. Through them, I learn how to be creative and to express myself authentically. Just as I act as a guide to them they act as a guide for me.
